Not only is chapped, dull lips unattractive, but it can be very uncomfortable and impossible trying to deal with it throughout the day. Having healthy lips with a nice, pink glow is a sign of good health and is flattering on both guys and gals. Our lips make up a huge part of our face and being that they’re placed front in center, keeping them moisturized and plump can help us feel confident. There are a lot ways to keep our lips at their best but here are just five easy tips you can definitely steal!

1. Lip balm is your best friend

Always keep a high-quality lip balm handy. Apply it frequently during the day to keep your lips moisturized and feeling succulent. Stray away from drying ingredients like petrolatum or petroleum and go for more naturally, replenishing ingredients like natural beeswax, almond oil, honey, Vitamin E, or thick emollients like cocoa butter and coconut oil.

2. Exfoliate regularly

Keep dead skin cells from building on your lips by using lips scrubs or even a soft toothbrush. Consistent lip exfoliation keeps your lips soft and nourished (who doesn’t love that?) Having soft, even lips keeps your lips naturally glowing and preps for any lipstick, gloss, or lip balm application to go on smoother.

3. Water, water, water

Hydration is key when it comes to proper lip care. Make it a habit to drink at least 9 cups of water daily to not only keep your lips hydrated, but the rest of your skin and body hydrated as well. Water is always key to a thriving health.

4. Use SPF in sun exposure

The skin on your lips is very thin and delicate. When exposed to harsh sun exposure, it can easily burn them or dry them out. If you’re planning on being out by the pools this summer or \on long nature hikes, take a lip balm with SPF and reapply as usual.

5. Stop bad habits

Away with the bad habits of licking and picking at your lips. It can be hard not to lick your lips when they feel dry and cracked, but licking them makes them even more dry. Also avoid sharing straws with people with sores and infection to keep you from contracting it too. There’s nothing worse than having an unappealing sore on your beautiful lips.
